FAMILY
Kingfisher Citrus is a proudly owned and operated fourth generation family farm, nestled on the banks of the mighty Murray River in Narrung, North West Victoria.
In the heart of the Murray, between Swan Hill and Mildura is where we grow our seasonal farm fresh citrus. Farming is a passion and we pride ourselves on producing quality, great tasting produce. If you are heading through the Murray food bowl, and would like to buy direct from the farmer you can buy our citrus; oranges, mandarins, lemons, limes and more at our farmgate. If you’re heading to the Gippsland Lakes call into our Kingfisher Farm Shop, just off the Princes Highway at Nambrok, home to our Kingfisher artisan collection of preserved condiments.
We welcome wholesale citrus enquiries for your small business café and bar and look forward to chatting to you about your cocktail citrus direct from the farmer!
FARMERS’ MARKETS THROUGHOUT THE DECADES
When we look back on our time as stallholders, boy oh boy were we busy! Each and every weekend our family would load the trucks and make the six-hour long journey to a VFMA accredited farmers market in the city. We relished in the opportunity to delight our customers with a taste of seasonal citrus grown on our heritage family farm.
Whilst there was always work to be done and fruit to be sold, the farmers markets were a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow producers and likeminded people of the wider community. The weekly markets quickly became home to regular catchups’ around the juicer with newly found friends and those friendships blossomed.
Over the years as our Fisher family expanded into more farmers markets, so too did our workforce… welcoming the children of Ronan and Lynton into the family. When we speak of connection, we can think of no greater example than the arrival of our grandchildren and the gracious heart-warming gifts, given generously from so many of our customers and friends of the farmers market community.
The farmers markets are more than an institution, the farmers market community is our extended family. At the beginning of the slow food movement, we were very blessed to connect with Miranda Sharp who welcomed us into the Collingwood Children’s Farm Farmers Market and thus began our market journey into Melbourne.
Fast forward twenty or more years, and the time has finally come to retire the trucks and find a slower pace of life. In late October 2023, Lex and I announced the retirement of our Kingfisher Citrus stall and bid farewell to farmers markets. With happy tears aside, this is an exciting chapter for our family’s farm.
The iconic bright coloured orange tents of our Kingfisher Citrus stall may be missed by many, but this is goodbye for now and not forever. Please keep a watchful eye on our socials for updates on local food and wine events and festivals we will be attending in the coming months.
Thank you to everyone who has shared in our journey thus far, you hold a special place in our hearts.
With much love and kindness,
Glenda & Lex Fisher
